Senior Citizen Coordinating Council

Mission Statement

To promote the creation of an elder-friendly community by empowering seniors, caregivers and employers through access to information and resources.

The Senior Citizen Coordinating Council (SCCC) developed the following committees to address specific issues that will facilitate the attainment of its mission:

Public Education Committee - Brenda Brown-Grooms, Chair
Purpose: To expand community knowledge of eldercare issues and solutions through education and dissemination of resources.

Volunteerism Committee - Alison Jorgensen, Chair
Purpose: To identify and publicize appropriate opportunities for senior volunteers.

Volunteer programs/services to promote include: Retired and Senior Volunteer Program; Foster Grandparent Program; Senior Companion Program, etc.

Employer Outreach Committee - Susan Williams, Chair
Purpose: To inform employers and employees on senior issues through the marketing and distribution of caregiver materials.

Community Resources Committee - Pam Kestner-Chappelear, Chair
Purpose: To update the Senior Citizens Quick Guide and to identify new programs/services ensuring that 2-1-1 VIRGINIA - Southwest Region’s database is kept up to date.
